Emergency Tax Relief

Emergency Tax Relief for Los Angeles County fire Victims
The IRS and the State of California announced tax relief for people impacted by the fires in Los Angeles.
Who Qualifies?
Households or businesses in Los Angeles County qualify for Federal Relief, while those in both Los Angeles and Ventura Counties are eligible for California Relief. However, Ventura County is not currently included in the FEMA disaster declaration and therefore does not receive automatic federal relief, though it may be added later.
What is the Relief?
Most tax actions that would normally be due between January 7, 2025 and October 15, 2025 are now due on October 15, 2025.
What Tax Actions are included?
Estimated tax payments originally due on 1/15, 4/15, 6/15, and 9/15, as well as income tax returns, payroll and excise tax returns, IRA and HSA contributions, and PTET payments due on 3/15 or 6/15, are now all postponed to 10/15/25. However, this relief does not extend to payroll tax deposits or the deadlines for filing W-2s, 1099s, and similar reports.
For additional items included in the postponement, refer to Rev. Proc. 2018-58.
Taxpayers with their principal residence or their principal place of business located outside of Los Angeles County must file and pay by the normal due dates.
